This teaser trailer for Equals, starring Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult, is pretty stylish and striking. A slower, more moody version of Chromatics’ “Kill For Love” really sets the tone, especially when paired with the silent, wordless clips from the movie.

The movie itself is about a futuristic utopian society where peace is achieved through the elimination of emotions. Hoult plays an illustrator who contracts a disease that lets him feel emotion again, and he finds himself falling for Stewart’s character, who secretly has the same disease.

The whole thing is about them finding love and trying to escape from a world that won’t let them keep it. If you’ve seen the classic sci-fi action flick Equilibrium, then this might all sound a bit familiar to you.

I have to point out that it’s kind of weird that the “utopian society” seems to still be fairly, uh… monochromatic, and I’m definitely not talking about the clothes or minimalist aesthetic. Speaking of minimalist aesthetic, apparently Ridley Scott is executive producing this one, so hey, the clothing and design suddenly make a whole lot of sense.

Still, it looks like a pretty neat film, will likely have some very striking visuals, and be a lot of eye candy for folks. The early Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB scores don’t cast the movie in the kindest light, so call me cautious with this one. If you search for the movie online, keep in mind that this movie made the rounds on the film festival circuit last year, so much of RT and IMDB buzz stems from that.

Either way, do you think this is something you’ll be checking out?
