When they said that the upcoming Riverdale, a live-action adaptation of Archie Comics on The CW, was going to be like Twin Peaks, I didn’t know what to think. Looking at these set photos that have been released on the Archie Comics Twitter feed…well, I’m just sayin’ that it wouldn’t surprise me if Archie developed a strong affinity for pie.

Archie’s Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has said early on that this show will be an origin story, telling “how all these kids, from very different backgrounds, with very different interests in different social circles, come together to become the most famous group of high school friends that the world has ever known.”

And apparently, much in the way Archie has crossed over with things like Predator and Sharknado in the comics, the creators of Riverdale are hoping to tell this origin story by incorporating some Twin Peaks DNA into the show. As Aguirre-Sacasa has explained, “Something we talk a lot about is, ‘Imagine if Riverdale were like Twin Peaks‘ and was a really weird small town. But Twin Peaks had some very funny black humor stuff to it; obviously it was very serious as well. So that kind of balance is what we’re going to try to strike with the show.”

I never thought I’d be watching as much The CW as I have been in recent years, but with all the DC shows, Jane the Virgin, iZombie, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The CW has evolved in the types of shows they offer. There’s definitely still a “CW vibe,” but the storytelling on the network has gotten more diverse and complex. Riverdale is The CW’s most intriguing offering yet – because how do you “Twin Peaks-ify” Archie? Answer: Pretty damn well, actually.

Now, have another gander at Pop’s Chock’Lit Shoppe up above. Yeah…that could pretty much be part of the Twin Peaks set. There’s plenty more at the Archie Comics Twitter feed. Check them out:
