Because we know you like watching your favorite actors and actresses training for really rad stunt sequences, here’s Daisy Ridley demonstrating some neat new sword techniques she likely picked up as part of her Jedi training. She posted the short video to her Instagram, and it was recorded by none other than the actor who plays TR-8R himself, Liang Yang. Of course, he did way more than just record the video: He’s the one who taught her the routine she demonstrates, which she identified in the Instagram post as Wushu, a type of Chinese martial art.

It’s unclear whether this bit of training will actually be used in Episode VIII or not; the way she described bugging Yang into teaching her these things made it seem like maybe she just wanted to learn them for fun. After all, any of us would totally take advantage of the chance to learn from a master, right? But if Rey’s fighting style actually pulls from Wushu, then we can expect some incredibly graceful, likely speedy duels happening in Episode VIII. It’ll be a strong departure from the original trilogy’s usage of Japanese and European techniques and possibly an interesting callback to the prequels’ (limited) use of Chinese techniques—you know, before they devolved into baton twirling.

Anyway. We did catch a glimpse of what Rey’s style might be like at the end of The Force Awakens, and it’s one that I thought looked pretty unique and intriguing. What do you think her fighting style might be like?
