Come on. Search your feelings. You knew it to be true. Despite how enticing the thought of having John Boyega in Black Panther might be, we all already knew that it was a stretch of the imagination at best. And, as it would turn out, it was too good to be true. The Hollywood Reporter quashed those rumors swiftly and thoroughly, saying that Boyega’s reps and even his U.K. agent all came out to say that it’s just not happening. Sometimes a coincidence really is just a coincidence, so go ahead and put away your tinfoil hats and red markers. There’s no conspiracy or cover-up here.
But still. It’s totally a lot of fun to imagine just what Boyega’s Black Panther role may have been, isn’t it? Despite Boyega not being in the cast, the stars who are actually confirmed for Black Panther come together to make one hell of a star-studded lineup. You’ve already got Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, and Michael B. Jordan, plus promises of 90% of the cast being African or African-American. Honestly, the worst thing about this movie (given what we know for sure is true) is that we have to wait until 2018 to see it.
Patience, friends. Patience.
