With a brand new web series for Seriously.TV, comedian Dylan Marron hopes to “open the hearts and minds of people through comedy.” The series, titled Sitting in Bathrooms with Trans People, focuses on a simple premise: Marron sits in bathrooms with trans people. Yep, just like the label says. Sitting with his first guest, Jackson Bird (of YouTube fame), Marron (who isn’t trans himself, but a self-described ally) shared in the various activities that all of us trans people do in the bathroom: eating waffles, drinking beers, and toilet paper ribbon dancing. You know. Normal things.
In addition to these gags, Marron has a very earnest conversation with Bird, who came out as trans a year ago. Together they tackle some of the commonly asked questions regarding transgender people, such as defining social transition and medical transition. As well, Bird touches on some of his own experiences with going to the bathroom.
The web series is lighthearted and definitely worth a watch. There are some genuine laughs weaved into the more level teaching moments. It seems like a great way to get someone to understand how ridiculous these bathroom laws are while also dispelling much of the fear-based campaigning against trans rights.
