I'm not saying it's aliens...but it's aliens.

I’m a sucker for Winona Ryder, TV shows about missing people, and the ’80s, so the new original Netflix series Stranger Things is right up my weirdly specific alley.

Described by Netflix as “a love letter to the supernatural classics of the 80s”, this trailer makes Stranger Things seem heavily inspired by favorites like E.T., The Goonies, Stand By Me, and Twin Peaks. The show was created by the Duffer brothers, whose previous writing credits include the M. Night Shyamalan-produced series Wayward Pines. Here’s a synopsis, via Netflix: “Stranger Things is the story of a young boy who vanishes into thin air. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl.”

Stranger Things stars David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Cara Buono, Charlie Heaton, Matthew Modin, and, of course, Winona Ryder, who seems to be having a ball in this trailer as the mother of the missing boy (messy, smoking, not-giving-a-shit Winona is my favorite kind of Winona).

The eight-episode first season of Stranger Things comes out July 15th.
