Ladies, gentlemen, and non-binary humans, allow me to introduce your new Superman.
Last week, we heard that the Man of Steel was finally going to be an actual character with an actual face on The CW’s Supergirl when the show returns for its second season. Finally, the network has announced their new Superman — Tyler Hoechlin.
You may know Hoechlin from his role as Derek Hale on MTV’s Teen Wolf. Now, he’s leaving the world of werewolves behind to become a full-fledged superhero. According to The Beat, Supergirl Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg has this to say about their new Superman: “Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman. We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”
“Tyler is Superman?” Did Kreisberg just let something slip that he shouldn’t have? After all, look at the photo above. Sure, he’s a little scruffy, but if that doesn’t scream Clark Kent, I don’t know what does!
Here’s hoping that the addition of Superman in a few episodes adds to Kara Zor-El’s growth and story, not detracts from it. Then again, Supergirl has already established this amazing character pretty definitively for television. There’s nothing now that can take her down or make her any less the hero of her own story.
