If this isn’t proof that dreams do come true, I don’t know what is. Actress and comedian Leslie Jones has finally taken her couchside Olympics commentary to the Games themselves in Rio, and she’s continuing her thoroughly entertaining coverage of events from her Snapchat and Twitter accounts. Last weekend we reported that NBC had invited Jones to Rio for her live-tweeting, and a couple days later Jones announced that she was headed to Rio!
Being over in Rio hasn’t impacted any of Jones’ contagiously enthusiastic coverage; she’s been sharing her unfiltered thoughts on the sidelines of many events like swimming, gymnastics, judo and beach volleyball. She’s been hanging with scores of Olympians from Team USA like Lilly King, fellow Olympics fans like actor Matthew McConaughey, and sportscaster Mary Carillo.
Witnessing her getting to meet Olympic medalists Aly Raisman and Simone Biles was pretty terrific:

And her final one-on-one meet-up with USA beach volleyball duo April Ross and Kerri Walsh-Jennings (who has said that Jones’ pre-game tweets inspire her on more than one occasion) was gloriously documented:

What’s made following Jones on social media so much fun is her unbridled excitement for the Olympics and how she’s genuinely thrilled to be there; no wonder she was too full of energy to get much sleep. It’s really great to see her interacting with the USA Olympians who have been encouraged and motivated by her online cheering. She’s also willing to ask the important questions, like why the men’s beach volleyball team doesn’t have to wear speedos if the women’s team is in bikinis.
Given that the overall Olympics coverage has been “not great, Bob!”, Jones’ Twitter is a breath of fresh air. We’re not sure how long Jones will be hanging out in Rio, but you can bet we’ll be following her every step of the way.
