Gregory Helms brought the first superhero to WWE television with his Hurricane alter ego, ushering in a new era in wrestling where being geeky was a cool thing. Former WWE superstar Cody Rhodes has also been pretty open about his love of geeky things, hitting up Marvel to talk comic books, donning the Tri-Force symbol from Legend of Zelda on his wrestling boots, and even engaging in a feud with Arrow’s Stephen Amell.  More recently, The New Day’s Xavier Woods lets his geek flag fly high, but he’s all about the video games. However, there’s another wrestler making a mark and he might have the geekiest ring entrance yet.

At WWE’s Clash of Champions, cruiserweight champion TJ Perkins debuted his video game inspired entrance, which featured eight-bit graphics, power-ups and a health bar. Simple yet so effective, it is a great nod to the video games of yesteryear. Per Kotaku, even Woods had to give a shot out for the revamped entrance.

Geekiness aside, Perkins also has a great story to accompany his awesome ring entrance. Wrestling since he was 13 years old, he became homeless at one point and basically had to start over after performing overseas.  His hard work and dedication has since paid off. He’s now working for his dream company and just retained his cruiserweight championship following  a match against fellow high flyer, Brian Kendrick. Kudos.
