I don’t know about the rest of you, valued readers, but I kinda forgot that there was another Planet of the Apes movie on the horizon–and by horizon, I mean next year. Motion capture magician and actor Andy Serkis has teamed up again with director Matt Reeves on War for the Planet of the Apes–which is the third film in the reboot series. Reeves had previously directed the film prior to the upcoming Apes movie, titled Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
Both Serkis and Reeves will be coming to New York Comic Con next weekend to reveal exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of the making of the upcoming Apes movie, and while we don’t know whether or not a teaser trailer will be included in said footage Fox has also released an official synopsis for the movie:
In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
War for the Planet of the Apes has already cast Woody Harrelson in the role of the Colonel as well as rising actor Gabriel Chavarria as Preacher. Judy Greer reprises her role as the ape Cornelia, the wife of Serkis’ Caesar, and Karin Konoval will also be returning as the orangutan Maurice. A notable addition to the cast is Steve Zahn, who is billed as playing one of the apes.
War for the Planet of the Apes will be in theaters in July 14, 2017, but if you’re going to be at New York Comic Con next weekend the new footage will be premiered on October 6.
