On Sunday, Rockstar Games posted a rather opaque teaser for … something. Despite it simply being the company’s logo against a red background, fans were quick to jump to the conclusion that it was Red Dead Redemption-related, and a new tease dropped this morning appears to confirm that suspicion.

So far, the red logo and the image above are all we’ve got to go on, but with that game’s success and a new generation of hardware out there since its release, it seems all but confirmed that this is an indicator of something happening with Red Dead Redemption. What could it be? The obvious choice is a sequel, but with PlayStation VR now on the market, there’s also the possibility that it could be a VR remake or spinoff.

Red Dead Redemption was the second game in Rockstar’s Red Dead series, following the lower-rated first game, Red Dead Revolver. With the first released in the PlayStation 2/Xbox generation and the second in the PS3/Xbox 360 generation, a sequel for another new hardware generation would follow the trend. Redemption added an open-world flavor to the Western style of Revolver, which isn’t entirely surprising considering Rockstar’s success with the open-world Grand Theft Auto series.

It’ll be interesting to see what they do to move the series forward with new hardware in the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If they embrace VR for a full sequel, it’d be a refreshing departure from other developers’ dabbling in virtual reality, which has mostly felt like a bunch of tech demos up to this point. A straightforward sequel would be plenty exciting on its own, though, so we’ll just have to wait and see what Rockstar has in store when they finally pull back the curtain.
