This year’s Google Doodle features a magical cat fighting off evil, showing us that black cat encounters are actually super lucky. Some might even say they’re… purrrrfect. Magic Cat Academy game takes inspiration from a real-life black cat named Momo, whose human is artist and Doodler Juliana Chen. It also builds off of last year’s Halloween doodle, which let users collect candy as one of four witches. The popular winner was the Yellow Witch, who had a cute little cat familiar.

In the game, “freshman feline Momo” is trying to rescue her magical animal friends by fighting off ghosts, which you help do by swiping in the shape of the symbols above the ghosts’ head. They get more complex as you progress, and I sadly died halfway, because this game is difficult with a trackpad.

If you scroll down, you can also read about how the concept for Magic Cat Academy evolved and learn about the “Meow-loween Team.” While they kept the spells simple in the interest of time, it’s such a shame that we didn’t get to see the “Cat Hat Spell” and other gags! What do you think about the Doodle?
