[VIDEO] Author Roald Dahl’s Daughter Lucy Talks Growing Up With Her Dad’s Stories and Disney’s The BFG

Disney’s live-action adaptation of Roald Dahl’s children’s classic, The BFG, dropped on Blu-ray yesterday. Directed by Steven Spielberg and written by the late Melissa Mathison, the film is a fun, quirky, and big-hearted adventure with a brave female protagonist at its center. To celebrate the Blu-ray release, I had the chance to speak with Dahl’s daughter, Lucy, which you can watch in the video above.

In the interview, she talks about what it takes for an adaptation of her father’s work to get her stamp of approval, the origins of several of the Dahl classics we’ve all grown up reading (she grew up with them as her bedtime stories!), as well as why she, though a screenwriter herself, would never adapt one of her father’s works for the screen.

Meanwhile, The BFG is now available on Blu-ray/DVD, Digital HD, and Disney Movies Anywhere. Also available on those platforms, and released on the same day, is Disney’s updated live-action Pete’s Dragon, starring Bryce Dallas Howard. Both of these super-charming movies would make great gifts for anyone in your life this holiday season who loves whimsy, magic, and getting in touch with their inner child no matter how old they are.
