Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs was a surprise hit for me, personally. I certainly didn’t expect to love it as much as I did. So imagine my surprise when I hear that Cartoon Network has brought the movie back to life… in television show form! (Ooooh!)
This short clip is, honestly, enough to convince me that the show’s worth checking out. It’s got plenty of the same heart and humor that made the movies so memorable, and as long as the show doesn’t lose sight of those things, I think it should be a solid cartoon to have on your personal roster. It better be a big roster, too; there are apparently 26 half-hour episodes in the show’s first season.
The show takes place before the events of the first movie, actually focusing on Flint Lockwood’s tween/teen years on the island. So in the show, he’s wallowing in relative anonymity, what with the whole “I haven’t made food fall from the sky like it was no big deal” thing. The movies glazed over those years in a bit of a montage, so you know those years are plenty ripe for inspiration. As well, Sam Sparks is present, there as Flint’s best friend.
