Last week, we reported on Emmy Rossum’s pay dispute with Showtime and Warner Bros. Television, which left a renewal of Showtime’s hit show, Shameless, hanging in the balance. Well, today, there’s some excellent news for Rossum, for Shameless, and for the fight against a gendered wage gap.
Playing Fiona Gallagher has been one of the great privileges of my life. I’m so happy to continue w my SHAMELESS family!Back to work in May!

It seems that not only has Rossum won her negotiations, but that the show has indeed been renewed for an eighth season that will begin shooting again in May! I am thrilled to hear this, and would love to offer Rossum our congratulations for sticking to her guns and winning this not just for herself, but for any woman coming up in the industry who needs encouragement in standing up to systemic sexism in Hollywood.
Some more good news: remember when I said that “If Macy really wants to exercise his clout, he should be speaking to Warner Bros. Television on her behalf, reminding them that he could always walk, too?” Well apparently, he did!
According to The Vulture, Macy came out in full support of Rossum, saying that it’s “about fucking time” that Rossum, and other women in entertainment are paid what they’re due. What’s more, he has zero problem with her now making more than he does per episode, which she demanded for seven seasons of not being paid equally. Says Macy, “She works as hard as I do. She deserves everything.” Now that is how to be an ally, people.
Congratulations to everyone over at Shameless! Because this isn’t just a win for Rossum. It’s a win for women, and a win for a Hollywood that can become all-around better place to work because this happened.
