There’s something really appropriate about a teaser for Hulu’s upcoming adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale airing during the most testosterone-fueled, fervently factious annual events in America: the Super Bowl.

In this teaser, which follows the first-look teaser we got, we get more of a glimpse of what actual handmaid life is like as Offred (played by Elizabeth Moss) asserts her determination to survive. It’s all there: the indoctrination and training of the handmaids, the collaborating Aunts, the stoic wives, the abuse, the brainwashing (the image of a pregnant handmaiden beaming as she holds her pregnant belly even though one of her eyes is swollen shut from having been hit is especially chilling) and the ways in which the handmaids finally snap (closing in on someone in a mob, the image of a noose, the stirrings of rebellion).

This teaser trailer will be airing during the Super Bowl, and according to a statement from Hulu, it is the first Super Bowl ad that they’ve ever done for an original series. Interesting then, that of all the ones they chose to advertise (rather than one of their returning existing series, or even a TV spot advertising all of their original programming), they’ve chosen to advertise The Handmaid’s Tale. I don’t know for sure, but I’d like to think that wasn’t an accident, considering the current political climate.

The Handmaid’s Tale premieres on Hulu April 26th. There’s plenty of time to read (or re-read) Margaret Atwood’s novel by then, too. Just sayin’.
