No offense to Teen Titans Go! or anything, but it’s just not the same. If you’re like me, then you really miss the original Teen Titans animated series that aired on Cartoon Network in the early 2000s. It had funny moments, but it also had more of a young-adult slant than Teen Titans Go!, which is admittedly a much more popular property.
It seems like the DC folks must be missing the original Teen Titans show a little bit themselves, too, because they’ve taken the opportunity to put together this animated movie—Teen Titans: The Judas Contract—which seems to be a clear harkening back to the original show. As the trailer tells us right up top, this direct-to-video feature will be rated PG-13. With that rating, it’ll definitely be heavier than Teen Titans Go!
The animation is a little different, as well as the cast list, and the costume designs… but it’s undeniable that this movie looks a lot more like the old Teen Titans, and the plot-line is reminiscent of some of the Deathstroke stories from the old show, too. (I’d get into detail about that, but you should really just go back and watch the old show, if you haven’t. I wouldn’t want to spoil it for you!)
Tons of the YouTube comments on this video are calling this the “real” Teen Titans, presumably in reference to the show (as opposed to Teen Titans Go!). I can’t blame them; this definitely feels like a return to form. Plus, there’s even some funny bits in there too, like the joke at the end.
Here’s a surprise bonus: it looks like Miguel Ferrer will still be voicing the role of Deathstroke, even though he passed away right before the casting announcement. He must have recorded his lines a while ago. According to his IMDB page, The Judas Contract will be one of his final performances. We don’t get to hear much from Deathstroke in this trailer, but I’m sure Ferrer’s voice will bring the gravity and depth necessary for the role. Can’t wait to hear him and see the rest of the gang back in action when this comes out!
