This year’s New York Toy Fair featured plenty of great toys. From science experiments to board games to stop-motion animation, there seemed to be something for everyone. Here are some of my favorites:

DC Super Hero Girls Action Figures

The first girl-friendly brand to win Action Figure of the Year at this year’s Toy Industry Association T.O.T.Y Awards, the line features favorites like Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Poison Ivy, Supergirl, Bumblebee and Harley Quinn. This year, they’re adding Starfire and Frost to the mix. What’s different about these figures is that the heroes actually have muscles—something we don’t see very often. For more information on how to purchase of these toys, head here.

LEGO Boost

This toy lets kids build their own figure out of LEGO figures and then animate them using an app. It’s not necessarily coding, but it’s a start. It comes in five figures including Vernie the Robot, Frankie the Cat, the Guitar 4000, the Multi-Tool Rover 4 and an Autobuilder (a machine that builds smaller figures for you). LEGO Boost doesn’t hit shelves until August but you can head here for updates.

Be Amazing’s Sick! Science

For all the budding scientists out there, you might wanna check out this line of experiments from the cool people at Be Amazing Toys. The company has been around for about 20 years so they obviously know what they’re doing. The line is designed to promote critical thinking while proving a hands on experience. Learn how to apply science to real life situations such as Newton’s Laws of Motion using just a ball, plate and bucket. For more information, check out their website.
