Here’s How Hollywood Will Be Participating In Today’s “Day Without a Woman”

Whether you’re working or not, whether you’ve decided not to spend money, are forgoing domestic labor today, are attending a rally, or are a man who’s chosen today to advocate for the women in your life at work or in your community and putting yourself in their places by handling the domestic work today, we hope that you are somehow participating in today’s “Day Without a Woman.” Here’s how Hollywood (a place notorious for its sexism) will be marking the day.

United Talent Agency (UTA), one of the larger talent agencies in the entertainment industry, will be holding off-site events for their female employees so they can forgo work and take part in the spirit of the day in various ways. According to The Hollywood Reporter:

In N.Y. and L.A. events, employees will hear from community leaders and talent, including Tumblr exec Katherine Barna, filmmaker Haifaa Al Mansour and Planned Parenthood NY chair Katie Danziger. In Toronto, employees are organizing a clothing and fundraising drive for Toronto Dress for Success and local shelter Women’s Habitat.

UTA CEO Jeremy Zimmer said, “We consider it vital for UTA to be a part of the global dialogue about gender equity and underscore its importance. Women play a critical role in the workforce and are essential members of the UTA family, and we fully support this event and encourage women across the agency to mark the day.”

We wish that more workplaces were as supportive as that, both today and year-round (that’s the important bit).

Meanwhile, companies like STX Entertainment are not only encouraging their female employees to take part in the day, but are also making a donation to Girls Inc. of Greater Los Angeles, which provides free programs to encourage girls toward higher education and STEM careers; and MTV will be “WTV” for the day, changing their logo, automating all their social media (because it’s all women who do those jobs over there), and having commemorative content throughout the day (rather like we’ll be doing here).

And then there’s individuals like American Horror Story creator, Ryan Murphy:

In honor & support of tomorrow’s A DAY WITHOUT A WOMAN, ALL the women in my company will not be working. So in short, nothing will get done.
