Last night, Massachusetts senator (and few remaining voices of reason in government) Elizabeth Warren was a guest on Real Time With Bill Maher to promote her new book, This Fight Is Our Fight: The Battle to Save America’s Middle Class.  Check out the full segment above.

Normally, I’m not Bill Maher’s biggest fan, but this was actually a great segment. In talking about what’s in her book, Warren briefly addresses the historical timeline of the rise and fall of the middle class, reminding us that the country was at its best, and more people shared in the country’s GDP when government regulated banks and invested in its people and in innovation.

However, he just couldn’t resist reaching for the lowest rung on the joke ladder, and when talking about how Trump supporters say they support her basic ideas but then went on to vote for Trump, and wanting her to explain that disconnect, he said “They don’t like you, Pocahontas,” echoing Trump’s recent grade-school insult of her.

Ha. Ha.

Warren didn’t take the bait, simply letting the weaksauce joke pass before going on with her point. And this isn’t to say that they didn’t joke throughout the segment. They totally did. But why did Maher have to be that guy, you know? Oh wait, because he’s made being That Guy a career. ‘K.

Still, I was flushed with hope when at the end of the segment, Maher mentioned Trump’s prediction that he would be running against Warren in 2020, then said “No pressure.” Now, she’s said previously that she’s not seeking the Presidency, but this time she said nothing.
