Remember when a single tweet of Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o at a 2014 Miu Miu show released a thousand ships and the internet was dying for a buddy movie? Well, now it’s real.

What started off as essentially fan fiction and fan casting quickly picked up steam as Nyong’o and Rihanna both said they were game for the film, leading Black Twitter to start enlisting all kinds of Black Girl Magic like director Ava DuVernay and writer Issa Rae. Guess what? That’s happening too.

Entertainment Weekly broke the news, and stated that “Netflix landed the project in a very aggressive bid, beating out multiple other suitors.” With the number of films being made that no one asked for (oh look, Angry Birds 2 was just announced), it’s great to see a company listen to people of color very vocally supporting a film idea and put it in the right hands. There’s clearly a huge audience eager to see these two to scam some men!

The currently untitled film is “eyeing a production start of 2018.” Sometimes the internet is trash, but other times it’s magical and wonderful. Are you excited?
