BookCon Is Happening This Weekend with an Incredible Line-Up

I’m excited to head to BookCon in New York City, June 3rd & 4th (and you can, too). There’s an insanely cool klatsch of authors like Rainbow Rowell and Charlie Jane Anders, experts like Bill Nye, and stars like Jessica Jones’ Krysten Ritter gathering at the Javits Center. Help me decide what we should cover!

I’ve been reporting on NYCC for a decade, but this is my first BookCon undertaking. The assortment of guests and the wide variety of panel topics seems an excellent sign for a fascinating and diversified con. There’s acclaimed writers, there’s YouTubers for the kids these days, there’s celebrities from the Netflix, there’s hopefully going to be attendees cosplaying as literary characters.

Here’s just a few of the guests:

Cecil Baldwin, Cory Doctorow, Cassandra Clare, Jeffrey Tambor, John Scalzi, Lemony Snicket, Maggie Stiefvater, MARGARET ATWOOD, Marissa Meyer, Marjorie Liu, Matt Bomer, Mayim Bialik, Kevin Hart, Scott Westerfeld, Veronica Roth and many more. I may be biased but I’m most excited to see my old bosses—Charlie Jane Anders, who just won the Nebula for her gorgeous novel All the Birds in the Sky, and Annalee Newitz, who has a new science fiction biotech book coming out, Autonomous, that William Gibson called “genuinely and thrillingly new,” so there’s that.

So many talented people are coming to BookCon it’s hard to know which panels we should try to cover, since Charline and I are a mere two people and the rad panels and screenings seem to be legion. Take a look through the list and see if anything jumps out at you, and we’ll work extra hard to get on that line. Right now I’m eyeing Rainbow Rowell’s panel, something called Do You Ship This? which sounds delicious, Tor’s Science Fiction and Fantasy, Margaret Atwood talking about The Handmaid’s Tale, and … yikes, OK, I’m really going to need a clone army to get to everything I want to see this weekend.

If New York City is reachable for you, BookCon still has tickets for sale, and they’re pretty reasonable for an all-day event packed with many of the best in the business. If I see any excellent book-themed cosplay, and I better, I’ll post to our Instagram, where you can follow along with us this weekend.
