Cryptic ads reading only ‘4:44’ have been around the city to much speculation, and though some savvier citizens were able to trace it to Jay Z’s TIDAL, we got confirmation during the NBA Finals last night that the number is the title of an upcoming film from the company in a collaboration with Sprint.
The short clip doesn’t give much away except the fact that Mahershala Ali boxes a lot in black and white (which, c’mon do you really need to know anything else?) and the cast also includes Lupita Nyong’o and Danny Glover. Any one of these three stars is enough to get me running to the theater. All three of them together? Well, just take all my money please.
Unfortunately, Vulture reports that the film appears to be exclusive content for Sprint users, with more information to follow soon. It’s a bummer that they film isn’t going to be widely available, but the outlet also points out that with an NC-17 rating it’s likely the film wouldn’t be shown in many theaters anyway.
It might be a good time to start figuring out which of your friends are on Sprint, or to get a new plan. Is this how they got the Verizon guy to become a turncoat and start doing ads for Sprint? Because, like, I get it.
