Awww, Tony! Tony, no!
Robert Downey Jr. has made a gazillion dollars and is one of the biggest stars in the world thanks to becoming Iron Man, but he’s also a clever dude who has solid perspective on the industry. Every time he appears to be on his last Marvel movie he returns for one for more–and we learn in an interview how this comes about, like his affection for the Infinity Wars directing team of Joe and Anthony Russo. It’s clear he wouldn’t come back for just anybody. Quoth RDJ:
“I just never want to blow it for the last six or seven [movies] I have done by dropping the ball because I decided to go do it one more time. I just want to hang up my jersey before it’s embarrassing.”
What’s unclear is whether RDJ means that he wants to leave Tony Stark behind before the films start lacking in quality or that because he’s now 52, the role could become harder to play. It’s difficult to imagine anyone else filling out the role RDJ defined, but I can easily imagine Tony coming back for years as a sort of older statesman superhero, both nurturing and snarking the new classes. Ideally, he’d never hang up the suit for good. (via CBR.com)

And with that, happy almost 4th of July to my American brethren and happy almost Tuesday to everyone else! What’d you get into today?
