It’s a big day for news about some of our favorite DC heroines. The highly-anticipated live-action Teen Titans show, Titans, from Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldman, and Geoff Johns has found its Starfire. Meanwhile, Riverdale just got a visit from a certain Girl of Steel.

As reported by Geek Tyrant, Titans has cast 24: Legacy‘s Anna Diop in the role of alien princess Koriand’r, A.K.A. Starfire, who is described as “is an alien princess from a warrior planet who seeks asylum on Earth. A no-nonsense, take-no-prisoners stranger on our world, she has the ability to shoot energy bolts and fly. Searching for her place on Earth, she’ll come into contact with the Titans.”

Diop will join Teagan Croft, the only other casting choice announced for the show so far, who will be playing the role of Raven. Titans will be one of the first shows for the upcoming DC-branded direct-to-consumer digital service that’s set to launch early next year. According to the official DC description, the show revolves around “the eponymous group of young Super Heroes-to-be from the DC Universe. The action series centers on Dick Grayson (probably best known for his alter ego as Robin), who emerges from the shadow of Batman to become Nightwing, the leader of a fearless band of new Super Heroes including Starfire, Raven, and many others.”

I’m looking forward not only to Titans, but to the new DC service. I’m curious what DC television will look like without the burden of network censors and advertisers. Will this finally be the thing that allows them to really give Marvel’s Netflix shows a run for their money? We’ll see, I guess!

And then there’s this amazingness. Supergirl sharing a booth at Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe with Betty and Veronica! Could it be that Kara Danvers has started working for CatCo again, and has been sent to Riverdale to investigate all the, you know, murders? And once she gets there, she realizes that the only way to get through to the drama-seeking, vengeful denizens of Riverdale is for the Maiden of Might to lay the smackdown?

And then she joins Josie and the Pussycats on stage for a musical number!

OK, so there’s probably not a crossover happening (though DC and Archie Comics have certainly crossed over before!). These are just two CW shows shooting in Vancouver, and all the actors across the Berlantiverse are probably good pals. Still, it’s fun to think about.

One thing these two news items really drives home for me, though, is that I’ve really fallen in love with DC’s female superheroes. I’ve generally been more of a Marvel fan, but DC’s women are fascinating and nuanced and awesome, with Supergirl and Starfire being among my favorites. (Maybe I also just really love aliens?)
