After an excellent and varied third season, dystopian anthology series Black Mirror is returning to Netflix soon with six new episodes. In a teaser from the streaming service, we get the names and a short glimpse at each installment into the uncanny world of extreme, innovative, and frightening technology.
From Variety, here are the names attached to each episode, all from the mind of writer Charlie Brooker (with one co-write credit from William Bridges):
- “Arkangel” stars Rosemarie Dewitt, Brenna Harding and Owen Teague. It is directed by Jodie Foster.
- “Black Museum” stars Douglas Hodge, Letitia Wright and Babs Olusanmokun. It is directed by Colm McCarthy.
- “Crocodile” stars Andrea Riseborough, Andrew Gower and Kiran Sonia Sawar. It is directed by John Hillcoat.
- “Hang the DJ” stars Georgina Campbell, Joe Cole and George Blagden. It is directed by Tim Van Patten.
- “Metalhead” stars Maxine Peake, Jake Davies and Clint Dyer. It is directed by David Slade.
- “USS Callister” stars Jesse Plemons, Cristin Milioti, Jimmi Simpson and Michaela Coel. It is directed by Toby Haynes. Brooker has co-written this episode with William Bridges.
Much like last season, there seems to be an interesting variety in straight-up sci-fi, personal stories, and ones that get your blood pumping with dramatic chases and fear. There’s romance, violence, and everything you want in a Black Mirror season. No doubt, there’ll be some gripping plot twists as well, though the “person you were rooting and sympathizing for turns out to be the bad guy” revelation was already starting to wear a bit thin.
Last season “San Junipero” was the stand-out episode, and definitely a tough act to follow. “USS Callister,” the Star Trek-esque episode, looks like a new angle from a show that often grounds its technological madness with familiarity—achieving that uncanny effect. It’s definitely the one I’m most curious about, especially considering it includes Westworld‘s Jimmi Simpson and Chewing Gum‘s Michaela Coel.
Are you looking forward to more Black Mirror? What episode has your curiosity?
