Things We Saw Today: Let’s Remember All the Ways in Which Women Were Brilliant This Year

One of the best things to come out of 2017 will absolutely be the symphonic sound of fearless female voices coming forward to break the silence on their stories of sexual assault and harassment, as well as all the other abuses and indignities they face as women.

The Huffington Post has rounded up a list of 28 wonderful pieces of online writing written by women. Many have to do with our current #MeToo moment, but some are just general pieces about feminism, like Ashley Nkadi’s “Y’All Don’t Deserve Black Women,” which talks about the fact that basically every social movement, and every time we were saved from or warned about horrors, exist because of the contributions and leadership of black women. Or Jessica Bennett’s “If Wonder Woman Can Do It, She Can Too,” about how this year’s Wonder Woman caused visceral reactions in many women who went to see it.

• Speaking of awesome black women, Tarana Burke, who started the #MeToo movement, will be releasing the ball at the New Year’s Eve festivities in Times Square! (via The Cut)
• Palm Springs, CA now has the U.S.’s first all-LGBTQIA city council! (via NBC News)
• The al-Manaar mosque, down the road from Grenfell Tower in West London, has just started offering homeless people a place to eat and stay for the night, becoming the first mosque in a city-wide effort that includes 13 churches and a synagogue. (via Buzzfeed)
