Tiffany Haddish was the undeniable breakout star of last year’s Girls’ Trip (not to mention The Carmichael Show before that), and despite being snubbed by Golden Globes and Oscars voters, her career isn’t slowing down anytime soon. We can’t get enough of Haddish, and we’re thrilled every time she announces a new project. Given the rate at which those announcements have been coming, that means we get to be thrilled a lot.
Haddish currently has six projects in various stages of development listed on IMDB, including a film adaptation of the fantastic, gritty comic book The Kitchen, which she’ll be starring in alongside Melissa McCarthy. She also recently signed a first look deal with HBO, published a NYT bestselling memoir, and announced she’d be reteaming with Jordan Peele (they worked together on Keanu) for a TBS comedy called The Last O.G., co-starring Tracy Morgan. The trailer for that was released last week and it looks stellar.
Haddish’s latest announcement is super exciting. She’s joined the cast of a new animated series from the team behind Bojack Horseman, titled Tuca and Bertie. The show is a comedy (although knowing that Bojack team, it will likely also be a constant emotional gut punch) “about the friendship between two 30-year-old bird women who live in the same apartment building: Tuca, a cocky, care-free toucan, and Bertie, an anxious, daydreaming songbird.” Haddish will play Tuca as well as serve as executive producer.
No casting has been announced for Bertie, although that description brings to mind some fun fancasting options. My brain for whatever reason went straight to Orange Is the New Black’s Kimiko Glenn, forgetting that she was actually in the last season of Bojack Horseman. So consider that my official fancast fantasy. What are your thoughts?
