Pixar has just released a short preview of their upcoming short “Bao”, and it’s the cutest and most delicious thing you’ll see today. Just look at that little Bao and it’s little laugh!

Domee Shi directs the 8-minute short film, which will play before The Incredibles 2. She’s the first woman to direct a Pixar short film, and the synopsis tells us it’s about an “empty-nesting Chinese mom who gets another chance at motherhood when one of her dumplings springs to life, but she must come to terms with the bittersweet revelation that nothing stays cute and small forever.” It will also show “the ups and downs of the parent-child relationship through the colorful, rich, and tasty lens of the Chinese immigrant community in Canada.”

There are so many small touches in the short that strike at my heart—the kitchen utensils and calendar that all Chinese families somehow manage to have, the family pictures hanging in the background, and the detail in the textures of the bamboo steamer. No joke, I just had some pork baos from my steamer last night and this short is already making me a little guilty about eating these cute lil guys. (And also really sad because I texted my mom about it and she got super excited that I’m still eating Chinese food away from home?) What I’m saying, is that lots of us can definitely spend more time calling our moms and telling them we love them and “Bao” is really going to hit me right in the filial piety.

What did you think of the “Bao” preview?
