The Thirteenth Doctor has finally landed! The eleventh season of Doctor Who is here, with the much anticipated premiere of Jodie Whittaker in the titular role. Ever since it was announced that the newest incarnation of the Doctor would be female, fans have flipped out (mostly in a positive way, but trolls abound, as they always do). Whittaker takes over for the previous Doctor, Peter Capaldi, with an all new cast of companions in Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole, and Mandip Gill, plus a new showrunner in Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch).
Viewers have quickly taken to social media to express their feelings on the premiere episode, titled “The Woman Who Fell to Earth”, and the response has been almost universally positive, with fans lauding the cinematography, the uplifting spirit of the show, and Whittaker’s luminous performance. Here are some of the top tweets from tonight:
A complete beautiful reinvention of #DoctorWho. So relatable, down to earth, with such character and sense of place. A great new Doctor too. And we immediately love all her friends. Drama, scares and comedy for all the family. Brilliant.

That was a fantastic opening episode, and Jodie totalled nailed it as The Doctor. And after all that excitement, saving the Universe and all (well, Sheffield), I need a fried egg sandwich. #DoctorWho

No other show in the entire world gets to reinvent itself to entirely, so completely, every few years in the same way #DoctorWho does – yet remain the same show. What an absolutely perfect debut for Jodie, a fabulous series opener, and a brilliant jumping-on point.
