Leia Organa and Rey in Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker

Seriously, Who Didn’t Cry Over Leia Organa in the Star Wars Trailer?

There’s something special about being a young fan of Star Wars, particularly in the way we get to experience the magic of Leia Organa being one of the heroes. Looking at Leia, we saw a leader; we knew that we could do anything we wanted to, even if that meant leading the Resistance.

So when Carrie Fisher died, a part of us all broke, knowing that meant the end of Leia. Luckily for us all, Star Wars had our best interest at heart (at least, in this case) and gave fans a brief look at Rey and Leia hugging in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

J.J. Abrams talked about how they worked with unused footage from The Force Awakens to bring Carrie, and Leia, into The Rise of Skywalker, and then we all fell apart when we saw her hug Rey in the trailer.

What hurts the most about this is that Carrie Fisher isn’t going to be around to see the completion of the Skywalker saga, but the great thing is that her legacy continues to live on in this character, her daughter, and all the fans who got to meet Fisher and listen to her speak. Meeting Carrie Fisher is still one of the greatest moments of my life, and knowing that they’re going to give Leia Organa the ending she deserves makes this end to the Star Wars saga a little bit better.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s still bittersweet because the Skywalkers have been with us for so long, but … is it ever really over? Especially if the Skywalkers are involved?
