Not Even the Marvel Actors Know What They’re Filming

We’re back with another rousing round of “No one knows what’s going on in Avengers: Endgame,” this time starring Brie Larson! Marvel is known for either giving their actors fake scenes (as Mark Ruffalo pointed out) or just not telling them important aspects of the storyline. Why? Well, you can’t really trust half of this cast.

Tom Holland was so bad about spoiling things that they just started giving him things he was allowed to announce rather than him just doing it all on his own. It got to the point where Sebastian Stan didn’t even know that Bucky Barnes was one of the characters who was snapped away. He was just told to “fall,” and he had to ask both of the Russo brothers before either of them gave him an answer.

So … is it surprising that Brie Larson, who joins the Avengers as Carol Danvers in Endgame, had no idea what she was filming? Not in the slightest. While chatting with Inquirer, Larson talked about her first day on set and how, even while filming, she had no idea what she was shooting:

“I had no idea what I was shooting, what the movie was. I didn’t know if anybody else was in a scene with me. I didn’t know anything. And it’s not until you show up that you get your pages for the day. But you only get your part. So it was like a scene that was completely black redacted, and then just my one line.”

To be quite honest, I’m in awe of the actors of the MCU for their ability to tell these stories without knowing everything. Conveying the emotional range they have to without having the knowledge of what their own characters are facing shows their abilities as actors, but also shows us just how serious Marvel takes these movies.

It’s going to be a wild week and a half (!) as we gear up for Avengers: Endgame but at least we know that the actors also have no idea what we’re in for. Who knows, maybe Carol Danvers really can time travel and just reverses everything that Thanos did. We could ask Brie Larson, but clearly, the only people who know what to expect are the writers and directors.
