New Spider-Man: No Way Home Pic Features Doc Ock’s Signature Move

Doc Ock is coming back into our lives with Spider-Man: No Way Home, and the return of Alfred Molina has fans incredibly excited. Seemingly gone from our lives after Spider-Man 2 and his sacrifice at the end to save New York, Molina’s Doc Ock has remained a fan favorite we thought we’d never see again. Thankfully, we have the multiverse to keep us going, and that means we get to see more of him in Tom Holland’s universe!

The highly anticipated third film in Holland’s Spider-Man franchise is gearing up to be the biggest live-action Spider-Man movie yet, and while we don’t know much about the plot, we do know that many of our favorite villains are coming back to take on Peter Parker. That includes Otto Octavius.

In a new picture from No Way Home, we get to see Otto holding Peter up by the head, as he is wont to do, as well as confirmation that the Lizard is making a reappearance after the Andrew Garfield film The Amazing Spider-Man.

Not Doc Ock’s first rodeo

At first, it is a bit confusing since it seemed that the end of Spider-Man 2 meant that Peter and Otto were on good terms, but this is also a move we’ve seen before. Back in Spider-Man 2, he also wrapped Peter up in his tentacles and set about crushing his head because if you’re Doc Ock, that’s just what you do.

So what does this all mean? Personally, I think it means that this Doc Ock is a bit different from the one we thought we saw in Spider-Man 2. We know there are nexus events and therefore nexus beings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and maybe one of those beings is Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock and this version of him went a different direction? Or maybe he was just plucked from his universe right before he found redemption with Peter Parker.

Honestly, I’m glad he’s clearly not a perfectly fine and “back to the light” version of Otto Octavius. I love Doc Ock and I love the journey this character goes on each time we’ve seen him (or her, if we’re talking about Liv in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse). So having him attacking Peter Parker, even if it is just this one moment in the movie? That’s enough for me because having any amount of Alfred Molina in my Spider-Man movie is something that I will cherish for all my days.
