English actress Freya Allan, who plays Princess Cirilla of Cintra, or Ciri, was 18 during the filming of the first season of The Witcher. In the first season, Ciri was meant to be 13 years old when she meets up with Geralt after the Battle of Sodden. In the second season, it’s likely that at least a year passes for Ciri as she trains with Geralt. So Ciri is probably 14 or 15.
Season two of The Witcher may have done away with the alternating timelines of season one, but time is still a strange beast on the Netflix fantasy show. Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) looks youthful, but he’s actually about 103 years old in the present day of the series. His sometimes lady-love Yennefer of Vengerberg is 32 years younger than him, making her about 71. This is all according to the show’s official timeline—their ages can differ in the books and video games of The Witcher. But we know one thing for sure: Witchers and magic-workers are extremely long-lived.
Although it’s not clear how long Ciri stays to train at Kaer Morhen with Witchers like Geralt, Vesemir, Lambert, and CoĂ«n in season two, she makes significant progress in her fighting skills and abilities. She also has time to begin training some of her magical abilities with the help of the sorceress Triss Merigold. So safe to say that by a few episodes into season two, Ciri is 14 or 15. As of December 2021, actress Freya Allan is 20.
While book fans know that in Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy series Geralt first meets Ciri when she’s 11 or 12, video game fans are also familiar with an older Ciri, where she is about 21 during the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Allan’s age means that she can likely play Ciri throughout the next few years of her life as she comes into her own as a powerful adult.
The official Netflix site for The Witcher has an excellent interactive timeline if you want to check just when all of these exciting events took place on the Continent. Happy wild hunting!
