If you’re not like me and obsessed with comedies or Pedro Pascal, you might have missed the news of the movie The Bubble, but now we have our first (real) trailer of the Judd Apatow movie inspired by the completion of Jurassic World: Dominion. Back in 2020, production for the 6th installment to the Jurassic Park franchise was shut down due to COVID, but the way the film was finished was by putting the entire cast in a bubble—meaning they only had each other to hang out with for the duration of the shoot.
So, The Bubble Is basically poking fun at the idea of a bunch of actors being thrown into a movie together and only having each other to talk to. While we got a fake trailer for the movie-within-a-movie Cliff Beasts 6: Battle for Everest: Memories of a Requiem, Netflix has now released the actual trailer for The Bubble.
So the excitement for The Bubble should be high. Netflix has released the following statement about the initial fake trailer: “You were probably wondering: What the heck is Cliff Beasts and why have I never heard of this franchise? THE BUBBLE follows the making of Cliff Beasts 6: Battle for Everest: Memories of a Requiem, the sixth installment of the ’23rd largest Dino franchise ever.'”
The movie’s logline states: “A comedy about a group of actors and actresses stuck inside a pandemic bubble at a hotel attempting to complete a sequel to an action franchise film about flying dinosaurs.”
The Cliff Beasts 6 logline, meanwhile, is “Humankind is threatened once again by a dinosaur species: Cliff Beasts. The team must reunite, after 5 long years, to battle the Cliff Beasts – but this time on Mount Everest.”
Trapped in a bubble
What’s hilarious about this trailer is that it, at first, seems like a great idea—much like quarantine if we’re being honest. A bunch of people hanging out in a hotel together working and having fun? In theory, exciting! In actuality, they’re all going to get on each other’s nerves, and the trailer soon descends into chaos as the cast starts to lose themselves and want out.
It is the only bit of COVID-inspired art that I’m actually excited for. We’re in for a rough road of people trying to be inspiring or poetic about the pandemic, and it is still way too soon to start to unpack any of that, but what works with The Bubble is that it is poking fun at the almost absurd ideas we put in to try to keep like going as normal—like forcing a bunch of actors into a bubble so that they could keep filming a movie about dinosaurs (and I love the dino movies).
But I’m excited for the completely chaotic energy this movie has. I know I love Judd Apatow’s work and seeing Pedro Pascal in fun robes with weird sunglasses on is enough for me to convince everyone I know to watch The Bubble with me. And also, I want to see Iris Apatow’s TikTok with a dinosaur.
The Bubble is being released on April 1, 2022 with a cast of Karen Gillan, Iris Apatow, Fred Armisen, Maria Bakalova, David Duchovny, Keegan-Michael Key, Leslie Mann, Pedro Pascal, Peter Serafinowicz, and so many more and we cannot wait!
