World’s Least Cool Parents Say ‘Daredevil’ on Disney+ Will “Tarnish” the Brand

Maybe just monitor what your kids are watching on Disney+? There are literal parental controls.

Well, the Parents Television and Media Council are mad that Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, the Punisher, and The Defenders are heading to Disney+. Why? Because I guess that means they’d actually have to use parental controls and talk to their kids about what is and isn’t appropriate for them. How dare Disney ask you to parent your children at a time like this!

“For more than 98 years, the Walt Disney Company has been synonymous with the words Family Friendly, and I can think of no other corporation in American history that has been built more squarely on the backs – and on the wallets – of parents and families,” Tim Winter, president of the Parents Television and Media Council, said in a statement, according to Variety. “The company’s eponymous platform Disney Plus logically marketed itself as a family-friendly streaming service, and parents have placed their trust in Disney to deliver just that.”

To that, I say: Dude, watch Fantasia. That scared me more than any gory fight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has. But more than that, Disney has shown death in their movies over and over again, but suddenly there’s a problem? Is it that you don’t want to both monitoring what your children are watching?

But keeping the focus on Disney+ … what does that matter? If it’s on Hulu, it’s still easily accessible. What Disney+ has is a Kid’s Profile version, which has the ability to block out all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe because, honestly, your kid shouldn’t be watching the MCU if you’re this worried about something like Daredevil.

Winter went on, stating, “It seems wildly ‘off-brand’ for Disney Plus to add TV-MA and R-rated programming to this platform, ostensibly to increase subscription revenue. So what comes next, adding live striptease performances in Fantasyland at Disney World?”

No, Tim. That won’t happen because even the Marvel stuff is family friendly in the park. Learn how to use your brain. This is just incredibly frustrating for me because it is, yet again, parents acting like their children are more important than anyone else while refusing to do the bare minimum for them. Also, it is wild to me that now Winter and company have a problem with these shows when they were always associated with Disney. From the jump. They’re just now on Disney’s streaming platform, and these parents don’t feel like doing the work of making sure their kids don’t watch them.

Complaining just makes kids want to watch it more

I am not a perfect judge for this because, as someone who is the youngest in my family, my mother let me watch pretty much whatever I wanted. I was watching Nip/Tuck at the age of 11 because my mom wanted to watch it and knew that if she threatened to ground me from my television shows, I would do whatever she asked of me. Maybe that’s why I work in the media. I was watching those inappropriate shows, and now I am a heathen.

But my mother knew that I would watch this stuff, and instead of taking it from me, she opened up our home to discussion and growth. I ended up being a goody goody because I would rather watch my shows than go to a party or do something I wasn’t supposed to. Now, I’m not every kid, but I do know that being the parent that ruins something for everyone else makes you the villain. That’s just how it works. It’s canon.

The solution?

I dunno, man, talk to your kids? Or use the parental guides and monitor what your family is doing. You trying to stop everyone else in the world from enjoying something because you don’t want to deal with having to tell your kids they can’t watch Matt Murdock have a religious crisis is completely on you. And please don’t make me have this same conversation with you all when you start complaining about Moon Knight, either.

Don’t try to take Matt Murdock from me because you don’t want to parent.
