Zoe Kratitz and the Catwomen on 'SNL'

Fellow Catwomen Crash Zoë Kravitz’s Monologue on ‘Saturday Night Live’

'The Batman' star gets a visit from catwomen of years past.

Zoë Kravitz made her first appearance as the host of Saturday Night Live this weekend, bringing a breezy confidence and gameness to the episode. Given the massive success of The Batman, it’s no surprise that there would be at least one sketch regarding her role as Catwoman in the film. During her monologue, Kravitz joked that she did the same prep work as Joaquin Phoenix in Joker by watching the movie musical Cats! every day for a year. Then, she was interrupted by a series of catwomen from the past.

The first was Kate McKinnon dressed as Michelle Pfeiffer’s iconic Catwoman from Batman Returns. McKinnon joked about her origin story saying, “I fell out a window onto a pile of cats. They licked me back to life and now I dress like Sandy from a porno version of Grease. It’s still called Grease!” McKinnon could barely stifle her laughs as she posed in her latex costume. McKinnon then fires up the cat signal, bringing more catwomen to the stage.

Ego Nwodim joins as Earth Kitt’s Catwoman, noting that she was the first Black Catwoman. “People called it campy, turns out it was just super gay.” They are then joined by Aidy Bryant as a crazy cat lady, followed by Chris Redd as Katt Williams. It’s a solid monologue that gives everyone a chance to shine, as Kravitz is repeatedly crowded out by cat people.

But the monologue wasn’t the only Catwoman reference in the show. Kravitz also appeared in a pre-taped Please Don’t Destroy video, where the PDD guys gift her with a cat (they got Paul Rudd a Man Ant, so that tracks). But when the cat goes missing, everyone panics. Suddenly, Paul Dano (who plays the Riddler in The Batman) appears hiding under their couch. Dano quips that he’s doing research for his next movie “about three guys who suck”. It’s a solid little absurdist nugget of a sketch, and the PDD guys improve with every new video.
