It’s safe to say that there are a lot of geeks out there who love them some metal, judging by all the albums guest starring Christopher Lee, about Moby Dick, or about The Lord of the Rings (here’s a song about the theft of the Silmarils). My only problem with metal is that I have an arbitrary picky-ness about them: no screaming vocalists.

I like to sing along. I’m a soprano. I can’t scream like that.

But I might have to make an exception for Imaginary Flying Machines (that’s a link to iTunes, but it’s also available on Amazon in the US and UK), an “extreme metal” cover album of the themes from twelve different Studio Ghibli movies including My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away.

Susana Polo thought she'd get her Creative Writing degree from Oberlin, work a crap job, and fake it until she made it into comics. Instead she stumbled into a great job: founding and running this very website (she's Editor at Large now, very fancy). She's spoken at events like Geek Girl Con, New York Comic Con, and Comic Book City Con, wants to get a Batwoman tattoo and write a graphic novel, and one of her canine teeth is in backwards.
