If you listened closely in this week’s episode of Marvel’s Moon Knight, you may have heard a familiar name drop: Madripoor. The city that Sam Wilson, Bucky Barnes, and Baron Zemo headed to in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which connected them to Sharon Carter, also has a connection to Marc Spector and Moon Knight through Anton Mogart (also known as Midnight Man).
In the comics, he does work in Madripoor and has powers that help him in his artifact collecting. So, Layla knowing him there and having a connection to Anton in the city, on the show, isn’t shocking. It’s just exciting for fans to see that connection brought to life in Moon Knight and connecting the show (however briefly) to another part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The city was a central part of Sam and Bucky’s search for answers and where Sharon Carter came back into the mix, when we learned she wasn’t taken care of in the way the Avengers were after the events of Captain America: Civil War. But it also hasn’t really had a large place in the MCU other than what we saw in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (outside of a flag being present in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).
So, does this mean we’ll see Layla and Anton’s connection in Madripoor, or will we go back there at all during the run of Moon Knight?
Heading back to Madripoor?
While it was mentioned by name, I don’t think we’re heading back there in Moon Knight. Unless there is magically some connection there to help Marc and Steven get answers, I think it was more of a callout to the connection of Midnight Man from the comics than anything else.
Still, it’s nice to think back to the connection made in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. In fact, the way the city was mentioned doesn’t even mean that Anton saw Layla there. All that’s said by one of his cohorts is “After Madripoor, I’m sure you two will have a lot to talk about.” That could mean that she knows what Anton found, or maybe she was there with him.
Whatever the case may be, the overall connection to Madripoor in the MCU doesn’t seem to be over yet.
