Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man (2008)

Things We Saw Today: Happy 14th Birthday to ‘Iron Man’ and the MCU!

It’s weird to think back to the first Iron Man movie and where we are now, but for the last fourteen years, we’ve celebrated the characters of Marvel thanks to what that first movie gave us. Robert Downey Jr. bottled magic in his portrayal of Tony Stark, and Iron Man gave us the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it today.

So while we’re far away from the movie that started it all at this point, it’s fun to look back on the history of the MCU and how we got to where we are now. And that all connects back to this day in history. In 2008, the first Iron Man movie came out, and I am old enough to remember just how good it was and how many times my friends and I went to the theaters to see it.

That first Iron Man movie was truly something so special because we were brought into this world with Tony Stark, and he wasn’t ashamed of his new superhero status. We knew exactly who he was and we watched him grow from there into an actual hero, and that movie set the tone for the rest of the MCU as a whole. We owe so much of our joy with this franchise to Iron Man. So, happy birthday to the franchise that continues to bring some of our favorite characters to life!
