How Old Is Misty in Pokémon?

In the Pokémon series, everyone knows Pewter City’s Gym Leader, Brock, the Rock-type user. But many people also know of tomboy Misty, the Water-type Gym Leader from Cerulean City. After losing to Ash, she too decided to travel alongside him, going with him through the Orange Islands and Johto. And although she stopped traveling with Ash and Brock after Hoenn, Misty still appeared in the anime on a few occasions and even returned to Alola at one point alongside Brock. However, there is still a question that often crops up—just how old is this Gym Leader, anyway?

Misty’s age in Pokémon

Misty’s age in the anime, believe it or not, has never been addressed in the English dub of the anime, nor in any other form of media the character has appeared in—besides one: the original Japanese version of the Pokémon anime. As of the third episode of the anime, Misty was confirmed to be 10-years-old—the same as Ash. However, this was never again mentioned in any form of media since. So, as far as we can tell, Misty is assumed to be 10 in all of her appearances beyond the third episode—including her eventual reappearance in Alola.

Several theories might explain why this is the case, such as eternal youth and slowed time, but given that the anime never touches upon this, it’s likely that a proper explanation will never be given for why this is the case.

Given her brash nature, it might or might not come as a surprise that Misty is still 10-years-old and is the same age as Ash, but it’s also a weird mystery that beyond her first appearance, Misty’s age has never been addressed again. There’s probably a good reason for why this is the case, but until that reason comes to light, it can be assumed that Misty will now and forever be 10.
