Turn on Nirvana, smudge your eyeliner, and be broody. Only then will you be in the proper mood for The Batman (2022). Looking back on the last Batman entries, they’ve got nothing on this soft reboot. That’s right, Christian Bale’s version of Batman doesn’t come close. Now, the franchise has returned to form with Batman being a moody recluse.
The Batman (2022) focuses on a very goth Batman (Robert Pattinson) who hasn’t been wearing the bat suit for long. But he’s flung into a situation involving The Riddler (Paul Dano)—who is a serial killer who loves telling folks riddles (duh, it’s in the name!) Naturally, the city of Gotham needs someone to keep them safe from this riddling maniac. Leaving the job to none other than Bruce Wayne, who isn’t a rich playboy this time around. This wonderfully dark (it very much feels like a horror movie in some spots) DC film may get a sequel, too. But when is that happening? And why hasn’t it been greenlit?
Why ‘The Batman 2’ hasn’t been greenlit
The blame likely falls on the weirdness going on with Warner Bros. at the moment. Unfortunately, even with the success, any sequels involving Batman in this reboot universe are essentially lightyears (bit of an exaggeration but still) away. Which doesn’t leave much room for excitement, if I’m being honest. For now, you’ll just have to rewatch the movie or potentially write (or read) some fanfiction. Yes, those suggestions are very valid.
