Werewolf By Night is coming to bring us the frights with this first look at the Halloween special from director/composer Michael Giacchino starring Gael García Bernal! The trailer debuted at the D23 Expo, introducing an interesting collection of monster hunters. We find out that one of said hunters is a monster themselves! With the black and white, the grainy texture, and the fantastic score, WBN is a stylish homage to classic horror movies. What we get out of this preview is an eerie sense that this might be one of Marvel’s more frightening ventures… Here’s Marvel Studio’s Werewolf by Night trailer explained.
Bernal plays Jack Russell, the original version of Marvel’s Werewolf By Night character, aka Werewolf if you’re into the brevity thing. The character was created by Roy Thomas, Jeanie Thomas, Gerry Conway, and Mike Ploog, and first appeared in Marvel Spotlight #2 (February 1972). Bernal is joined by Laura Donnelly (The Nevers, Outlander) who plays Elsa Bloodstone. She is the daughter of Ulysses Bloodstone, who was an immortal monster-hunter. Bloodstone has often been compared to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as they are both supernaturally gifted monster hunters.
The cast also includes Harriet Sansom Harris (Hacks) as Verrusa, Jaycob Maya (Six Degrees of Separation) as Jake Gomez (the second Werewolf by Night), and Eugenie Bondurant (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) as Linda.
Werewolf by Night premieres on Disney Plus on October 7.
