Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and his son Skaar (Wil Deusner) in 'She-Hulk: Attorney at Law'.

Who is Skaar? Hulk’s Son, Explained

The MCU's daddy issues continue.

Despite Jennifer Walters’ insistence that K.E.V.I.N. save any new character intros for the movies, a new member of the Hulk family makes his debut in the season one finale of ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’. And like we suspected since episode one, that new face is Hulk’s estranged son Skaar. The arrival of the Commodore, the Grand Master’s Sakaarian space ship in episode one (which causes Jen to crash and gain her superpowers) signaled that Bruce had some unfinished business in Sakaar. And he spends much of the series off-world, presumably returning to the gladiatorial planet.

It appears that the MCU is bringing 2007’s World War Hulk comics storyline. The crossover event, written by Greg Pak with art by John Romita Jr., Klaus Janson, and Christina Strain, follows Planet Hulk, which sees Hulk banished from Earth and flying into a wormhole onto the planet of Sakaar, where is forced to become a gladiator. Much of the storyline was used in Thor: Ragnarok, and fans have been expecting Bruce Banner’s narrative to lead into the events of World War Hulk.

Who Is Skaar’s Mom?

While on Sakaar, Bruce falls in love with and marries Caiera the Oldstrong, one of the Shadow People of Sakaar, and she gives birth to their son Skaar. But while an explosion kills both Caiera and Skaar in World War Hulk, setting Bruce on a course of vengeful destruction, that doesn’t appear to be what the MCU is doing. Instead, Bruce brings Skaar back to Earth with him, and seems to be making a go of parenthood.

Who Plays Skaar in the ‘She-Hulk’ Finale?

Skaar is played by Wil Deusner (Stargirl) in ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’, and we will presumably see him reprise the role in future MCU projects. And while he’s young, Skaar ages rapidly, making him a teenager in his current form. Since we only get a glimpse of Skaar in the series, we don’t yet know much about his character or his motivations. In comic versions, Skaar comes to Earth to kill Hulk for abandoning him and his mother, but this version seems less murder-y and more down to chill at the family BBQ.

It’s unclear when we will see Hulk and Skaar next. There’s no Hulk solo film on the books, although we can assume he’ll show up in future Avengers films. And Hulk may also cameo in one of Marvel’s upcoming series like Secret Wars or Armor Wars. We’ll have to wait and see what the MCU has in store for the family Hulk.
