Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano in Ahsoka

Ahsoka made quite an impression on Star Wars fans last year. Now, after several months of fans keeping their fingers crossed for more, Ahsoka has finally been officially renewed for season 2.

Ahsoka follows Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) on her quest to stop Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) from ending his exile and returning to the galaxy to re-establish the Empire. Throughout its first season, Ahsoka covered an impressive amount of ground, even bringing viewers outside the Star Wars galaxy for the first time. It seemed to be setting up Thrawn’s story arc from Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire trilogy. Plus, Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) seemed like he was about to blow up the Star Wars universe with some hidden power on Peridea related to the Mortis gods, and the show renewed interest in the Nightsisters’ origins and power.

Needless to say, viewers weren’t satisfied by the end of season 1. There were simply too many unanswered questions left to end the series there.

January 9, 2024, was a good day for Star Wars fans. First, it was announced that Jon Favreau is directing a new Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, which will see The Mandalorian stars Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu migrate to the big screen. The announcement also confirmed that Dave Filoni would be working on the movie in addition to his current work “developing Ahsoka season 2.” Given that viewers have been waiting almost three months for an update, it is a relief to hear that season 2 is officially happening. Unfortunately, the announcement didn’t reveal any further details about what the season entails and when it might arrive.

Ahsoka‘s season finale ended on an ambiguous note, though it didn’t come with any post-credit scenes or promise of a return. In the end, Thrawn, the Great Mothers, and an army of night troopers escape from Peridea, making their way to Dathomir. Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) was able to sneak abroad Thrawn’s ship and made it home, reuniting with Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). However, Ahsoka, Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno), and Skoll were stranded on Peridea. While Skoll seems to have found a connection to the Mortis gods, Ahsoka and Wren seemingly decide to hunker down on Peridea and let the past go.

Of course, this ending seemed to hint at much more, as it’s unlikely Bridger would be content at home knowing the friends who rescued him are still on Peridea. Plus, Thrawn remains a major threat to the galaxy, while Skoll’s storyline teases that something big is coming to the Star Wars universe.
