Anybody who loves the classic “we were fake dating but then we fell in love” trope should keep an eye out for My Demon, a KDrama starring Song Kang and Kim Yoo Jung. Fans are excited for the lead actors’ notably “out of character” roles.
Song Kang, for instance, is a great actor, but many audiences will only have seen him in the hit action and psychological thriller Sweet Home (2020). He was also a lead in the popular web novel-turned-KDrama Nevertheless (2021) but his role in said drama wasn’t fluffy at all—his character was more comparable to a “walking red flag.”
The same could be said about the female lead, Kim Yoo Jung. She has an extensive filmography and is notable for being a lead staple in saegeuk dramas (historical dramas), but fans have yet to see her pull off a completely soft and romantic role.
This KDrama is a dream for anybody obsessed with visual novels—it focuses on Do Do-Hee (Kim Yoo Jung), the heiress of a large conglomerate named Future Group. She agrees to enter into a contract marriage with a demon, Jung Gu-Won (Song Kang), who recently lost his powers. Think of it as a KDrama version of Pride and Prejudice, given that both the leads in the story have a sense of arrogance about them, and neither wants to concede to the other.
Aside from the two leads, viewers can also expect to see Lee Sang Yi, who will portray Joo Hyun Hoon, the CEO of Mirae Investment. He’s best known for his male lead role in the hit 2021 drama Hometown Cha-Cha. Other supporting roles will be portrayed by Lee Yoon Ji, Kim Hae Sook, Jo Hye Joon, Kim Tae Hoon, Jo Yun Hee, Kang Seung Ho, Seo Jung Yeon, and Heo Jung Do.
Anybody searching for a romantic fantasy KDrama should keep their eyes peeled for My Demon. It will premiere on SBS TV on November 23, 2023, and will be streaming new episodes every Friday and Saturday. On November 24, the first episode will premiere on Netflix, where new episodes will also be released weekly.
