Here’s When You Can Give ‘The Marvels’ Another Chance

So. The Marvels. Maybe you saw it in theaters. Maybe, thanks to its abysmal reviews, you skipped it. Either way, with The Marvels‘ digital release approaching, you might be looking to give it another chance. Here’s when The Marvels is likely to come out on digital and streaming platforms!

Should you give The Marvels a try?

The short answer: yes! There’s some good stuff in The Marvels, even though it’s kind of buried in Marvel Studios’ relentless parade of cameos and CGI battles.

The Marvels is the sequel to 2018’s Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers. After helping to save half the universe in Marvel’s Infinity Saga, Carol teams up with teenage superfan Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) and estranged niece Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris). Together, the three superheroes try to stop the Kree revolutionary Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton) from vacuuming natural resources from other planets to save her own homeworld.

I mean … yeah, that’s the plot of Space Balls. The movie has other problems, too, like stuffing too much plot into a short runtime (a little over an hour and a half, not counting the credits) and ultimately shying away from the meaty emotional story it sets up at the beginning. Despite Marvel’s attempt to throw director Nia DaCosta under the bus when the movie flopped, you get the sense that a horde of producers came in at the last second and mucked up what might have been a great movie.

Even with those problems aside, though, the film manages to be really charming at times. You’ll either love or hate the musical scene (I personally loved it). Larson, Parris, and Velani have great chemistry together. And there are some remnants of that great emotional story I mentioned, in which Kamala finds out her hero isn’t perfect, and Monica struggles to forgive Carol for disappearing.

Want to give it a shot? Here’s where and when you can catch The Marvels.

The Marvels digital release date and special features

Disney has announced that The Marvels will be available to buy from digital retailers on January 16, 2024. The digital release will also include the following special features:

Two featurettes: a behind the scenes feature called “Entangled,” and a collection of anecdotes called “The Production Diaries”

Four deleted scenes: “Captain-in-Residence,” in which Kamala picks up a call for Carol from Valkyrie; a brainstorming session with the Marvels called “It’s All Under Control;” “Space Yoga,” in which Kamala’s mom teaches yoga on the S.A.B.E.R space station; and a chase scene appropriately entitled “The Chase.”

The Marvels streaming release window

If you want to watch The Marvels streaming, Marvel movies come to Disney+ after their digital and DVD releases. The Marvels comes out on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K HD on February 13, which means that The Marvels will be likely available to stream later in February 2024.

Will you love this movie? Hard to say. But hopefully, you’ll at least have fun.
