For Its 50th Birthday, Doctor Who Is Going 3D

“Your television is now bigger on the inside.”

I see what you did there, Stephen Moffat.

So remember when we said we didn’t know anything about the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special?

According to The Guardian, the 50th Anniversary special will be filmed in 3D, and aired in 3D in movie theaters as well as the BBC HD channel. Said Stephen Moffat:

It’s about time. Technology has finally caught up with Doctor Who and your television is now bigger on the inside. A whole new dimension of adventure for the Doctor to explore.

Currently, BBC controller of drama commissioning Ben Stephenson is still working out the logistics of running the show in movie theaters, saying “We need to make sure the main BBC1 experience remains absolute value for money for the audience.” There is no word, however, on whether any of those theaters will be in America, American Whovians.

UK Whovians, consider this what you get in exchange for all those “not available outside the US” videos. I suppose it would be too much to ask for the special to be aired in doofy red and blue 3D. I just wonder how they’ll get glasses out to all those BBC HD viewers…
