He’ll be the “Alfred to [Rupert Grint]’s Bruce Wayne.” I’m having a hard time handling how happy that sentence makes me.
The show in question is CBS’ Super Clyde, which stars Grint as a “well-meaning and slightly neurotic” fast-food employee/agoraphobic/comic book nerd who inherits a ton of money and decides to become a superhero. Per Deadline, Stephen Fry has been cast as Jeeves Randolph, Clyde’s sidekick/butler.
Fry’s better known in the UK than the US; the actor/comedian/writer has starred in Jeeves and Wooster and A Bit of Fry and Laurie in addition to hosting the quiz show QI. Stateside audiences will have seen (or heard) him in V for Vendetta, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Alice in Wonderland, the movie version of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (he was the voice of the Guide), and Bones, among other things. He’s also playing the Master of Laketown in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. And, for the Harry Potter connection, he narrates the UK editions of the audio books and has done voice acting for some of the video games.
My wish list for Super Clyde isn’t very long. It is as follows:
1) Let it be good.
2) Let CBS not cancel it.
3) Let Hugh Laurie show up. He can be in a flashback as the late uncle from whom Clyde gets his money. He can walk around in the background. There can be a House M.D. poster on the wall in one of the scenes. I really don’t care.
