There’s no doubt that people like to take the distinctive silhouette of Hello Kitty and wrap it in the colors and accessories of other media properties, particularly ones with tones wildly divergent from “cute animal people doing cute things.” Sometimes those mashups are even created by Sanrio themselves, like when they created Hello Kitty merchandise in the likeness of each member of the band KISS.
And now, as Sanrio partners with KISS and The Hub television channel for Kiss Hello Kitty, a cartoon show, announced today, which is apparently already in production.
The series will reportedly focus on “four Kiss x Hello Kitty characters living their rock ‘n’ roll dreams and bringing pink anarchy to every situation they are in,” and Gene Simmons himself is one of the Executive Producers. I’m going to go ahead and assume that since this will be airing on The Hub, it’s probably not going to be Metalocalypse with Hello Kitty.
Although I would totally watch that.
Even the band is excited about Kiss Hello Kitty. Guitarist Paul Stanley: “Knowing and viewing The Hub as I do daily with my three children, it is the perfect home for us to bring the Kiss Hello Kitty juggernaut to yet another generation.”
Kiss and Sanrio first partnered in 2011, for Kiss x Hello Kitty, a marchandise push that even included toilet paper, and making an American cartoon together is apparently just the next stage of that relationship. We’re not going to argue. Nay, rather, we welcome any new sources of rock ‘n’ roll dreams and pink anarchy into our lives.
